Who we are

The FlowHer Initiative is a Cooperative Society of Collective Interest (SCIC) committed to combating menstrual vulnerability in France and internationally, with particular attention to women and adolescent girls living in fragile or conflict‑affected contexts. Because access to safe and dignified menstrual hygiene products should never be a privilege, we design and market reusable solutions created for all women.

Our mission: to ensure that every woman can manage her period autonomously, with dignity and safety.

Our approach: Combining user‑centered design, responsible manufacturing, and partnership with organizations working to uphold women’s dignity and autonomy in fragile contexts.

Why menstrual hygiene matters

Each month, more than 2 billion women menstruate worldwide. Among them, nearly 25% do not have access to the products, infrastructure, or conditions needed to manage their periods safely and with dignity (World Bank, 2022).

Yet access to dignified menstrual hygiene is a fundamental lever of empowerment.

In many countries still, limited access to appropriate hygiene products to safely manage their menstruations exposes women and girls to health risks, social exclusion, and disruptions in their educational and professional paths.

Guaranteeing equitable access to safe and sustainable menstrual products empowers women, enables their full participation in economic and social life, and upholds their dignity.

Employment

Poor access to adequate and safe menstrual hygiene products exposes women and adolescents to stress, shame, social stigma, and, in some cases, social exclusion

According to a study conducted in 2020 in West Africa, about 20% of women aged 15-24 miss school during their period (Hennegan)

Limited access to adequate menstrual hygiene products may force women to resort to negative coping strategies (such as using old cloths or engaging in transactional sex), which can increase the risk of infections

In Rwanda, 23% of interviewed women report having missed at least one day of work due to a lack of appropriate menstrual hygiene products (GIZ 2023)
